blue bells & beginnings
Happy New Year, friends! As I close the chapter of 2015, I reflect back on the pages. Words of mistakes, and accomplishments, love and kindness, not-so-easy moments, and really great ones, have all played a part in the adventures that 2016 will bring.
With this new beginning, and a new start to a lot of things in my life, I want to make sure that I have time to check off a few resolutions on my list. So, in this last holiday weekend, and before getting back into the grind, I wanted to share with you what I am going to accomplish this year!
Here's to new beginnings…
1.Say Something Kind About Yourself: I am easily my biggest critic. I tend to focus on the negative. “Why haven’t I lost those fifteen pounds? Why am I not where I want to be in my career? Why, why, why?” This year, I am throwing out the why, and I am going to start with “I am.” It is totally awkward at first, but try it. Name three, kind things that you are. Okay, ready, set, go!
*I am beautiful, inside and out.
*I am pretty damn funny.
*I believe in hope, and the possibility of greatness in myself.
2. Be Patient: Oh, how I struggle with this one! Sometimes I think my impatience is because of the world we live in. Think about it. We can have, pretty much, whatever we want with the snap of a finger. So a lot of times, I expect.
I turn into Veruca Salt, and start belting, “I want it now. I want the whole world. I want to lock it all up in my pocket!”
Too often this attitude has set me up for failure. And I find this is when I start to babble about all of my negative qualities. So, this year, I am going to trust in the timing of things; I am exactly where I am supposed to be in the world, doing exactly what I am intended to do. I am going to focus on living in the moment, and not living in a future that has yet to be determined. As they say, “Patience is a virtue.”
3. Learn to Balance: I think sometimes because I am so impatient, I try to do a million things at once, and forget to take time for myself. Careers, and soon-to-be careers, are constantly on my mind. Focusing, only, on this aspect of my life, has made me just a tad bit irritable. So, this year, I am moving some things around, and making my free time a necessity, not just a possibility. Bring on the cozy blankets, and books!
4. Teach Yourself Something New: I know, I am adding one more thing to my long list of activities that I already do. However, I consider this one a “me time” activity. I pride myself of being a well-rounded person (alright, another compliment), so learning something new (whatever it may be) is welcoming! I made a list of things (I won’t bore you with all of them), but a few of my favorites are; creating art with flowers, learning how to garden, and creating my own lipstick color.
5. Plan an Adventure!: Last but not least, my favorite and most exciting resolution! This year I am turning the BIG 3-0, and what better way to celebrate than by traveling. Here are a few places, that I want to mark off on my Atlas…
Scotland- To travel back to this mystical land would be amazing. This time in search of a new story, one that takes place in the Isle of Skye.
Greece- Oopa! Being Greek, I grew up hearing the stories, and believing every word that my grandparents told me. This year, I want to see where these legends come from.
Iceland- To see the Northern Lights, in a cozy little Igloo hut, would definitely be a scratch off my Bucket List!
